TexasBank, a community bank with 16 locations state-wide, recently awarded $136,000 in college scholarships to 76 graduating high school seniors and college students through the James and Dorothy Doss Foundation. Education has long been a top priority for TexasBank, which has given over $1.3 million in scholarships over the past 13 years.
"The board and ownership of TexasBank are committed to the education of our future leaders," said Greg Dodds, President, and CEO of TexasBank. "We believe that by investing in students today, we are investing in the prosperity and growth of our communities for generations to come."
TexasBank, nor the Doss Foundation chooses recipients for the scholarships, rather it awards funds directly to the schools for them to create criteria based on academic achievements, community involvement, and future goals.
The $137,000 is divided into three regions while also including $5,000 to the Communities in Schools organization, new this year, located in Fort Worth. $25,000 each is awarded to Howard Payne University located in Brownwood, Tarleton State University in Stephenville, and Weatherford College in Weatherford. Texas State Technical College also received $5,000.
High schools are awarded funds based on size with Weatherford High, the largest at $6,000, Stephenville and Brownwood high schools at $5,000, Bangs High School at $2,000, and Poolville at $1,000, respectively.
"These scholarships make a meaningful difference in the lives of students and their families," said Mark Riebe, Chairman of TexasBank. "The cost of college continues to rise, so we are honored our ownership continues to help support these students in pursuing their dreams of higher education.
